Udupi, Sep 4: An elderly retired armed forces officer, who was found wandering without clothes and in a highly exhausted state near the Achchada railway tracks under the Kaup police station limits, was rescued and admitted to the district hospital by social worker Vishu Shetty Ambalapady and the local police.
The rescued individual has been identified as 67-year-old Shashi Shekhar Thakur, hailing from Tamil Nadu. Upon receiving information about an elderly man sitting naked near the railway tracks, completely drained and unable to walk, Vishu Shetty, along with Kaup police personnel Manjunath Shetty, rushed to the spot to assist him.

Prima facie, the elderly man appeared to be suffering from amnesia or severe depression. When his belongings were checked, the rescue team found a bag containing his pants, a shirt, identity cards, and cash amounting to Rs 47,000.
Upon verifying his identity cards, it came to light that he had served in the armed forces and retired as a lieutenant commander.
He is currently undergoing treatment and care at the Udupi district hospital. Social worker Vishu Shetty has requested his relatives or anyone with information about his family to immediately contact the Kaup police station or the district hospital.
