Kohli, Rohit set for Vijay Hazare return to keep 2027 World Cup hopes alive

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 30: With limited match practice ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, senior India stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are reportedly gearing up for a return to domestic cricket as pressure mounts from the BCCI.

According to a report, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee wants both stalwarts to feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy if they wish to stay in contention for the next World Cup. While Rohit has already expressed his willingness to turn out for Mumbai, Kohli has also agreed in principle and is likely to play for Delhi.

Selectors, the report adds, are “waiting for a slip-up” — either in form or fitness — to justify moving on from the veteran duo. Fully aware of the stakes, both Kohli and Rohit are determined to continue competing at the highest level.

Kohli is expected to fly back to London after the South Africa ODI series but may return to Bengaluru to join Delhi for a few Vijay Hazare matches. His exact travel dates remain undecided pending clarity over India’s New Zealand series schedule.

The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), however, has not yet received formal communication from Kohli. Sources suggest the former captain had mapped out much of his year’s schedule during India’s tour of Australia.

With competitive spots tightening and selectors adopting a firm stance, the Vijay Hazare Trophy could play a decisive role in shaping the World Cup futures of India’s two biggest modern-day icons.
