New Delhi, Nov 6: Days after Team India’s historic ICC Women’s ODI World Cup triumph, emotions ran high as injured star batter Pratika Rawal finally received her World Cup winner’s medal. The moment came during a special interaction between the victorious squad and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence on Wednesday.

The Indian women’s team, led by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, met the Prime Minister at Lok Kalyan Marg, dressed smartly in formal attire with their shining medals proudly displayed. PM Modi congratulated the team for scripting history and lauded their grit, especially their strong comeback after three early losses in the league stage — a turnaround that silenced critics and inspired millions of fans across the nation.

Among the most emotional moments of the evening was when Pratika Rawal, who had been ruled out of the tournament due to an ankle injury, finally received her medal. The 24-year-old had been one of India’s standout performers before her injury, amassing 308 runs, including a century and a half-century, making significant contributions to India’s campaign.
Speaking to the media after receiving her medal, an emotional Pratika said,

“I can’t even express what I feel. This flag on my shoulder means everything. To be here with my team — it’s surreal. Injuries are part of the game, but I’m just happy I could still be part of this incredible journey.”

She further added,

“Watching from the sidelines was harder than playing. Every wicket, every boundary gave me goosebumps. The energy, the emotion — it was incredible. We did it for India.”

As per ICC regulations, medals are generally awarded only to members of the final 15-player squad. However, given Pratika’s crucial role in India’s campaign, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ensured she received due recognition for her contribution to the historic title win.

The Prime Minister hailed the team’s achievement as a “golden chapter in Indian cricket,” emphasizing that their success would inspire countless young girls to take up the sport and dream big.
