Liverpool stunned by palace; Man Utd, Chelsea suffer costly defeats in Premier League thriller

London, Sep 28: Liverpool’s flawless Premier League start collapsed with a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday, ending the Reds’ five-game winning run and making Palace the league’s only undefeated side after 18 games across competitions.

Ismaila Sarr put the FA Cup winners ahead early when Liverpool failed to clear a corner. Federico Chiesa struck an 87th-minute equaliser, but Eddie Nketiah sealed a dramatic Palace victory with a composed stoppage-time finish. “These are the moments why we love football. We deserved it,” said Palace boss Oliver Glasner. The win lifted Palace to second, three points behind leaders Liverpool. Arsenal can reclaim second if they beat Newcastle on Sunday.

Manchester United endured another setback, falling 3-1 at Brentford. Defensive lapses allowed Igor Thiago to score twice inside 20 minutes, while United captain Bruno Fernandes missed his second penalty of the season. Benjamin Sesko’s first United goal offered brief hope before Mathias Jensen’s stoppage-time strike sealed the Bees’ win. Questions are mounting over goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, chosen ahead of new signing Senne Lammens. “We didn’t control the game. We need to do better,” admitted manager Ruben Amorim.

Elsewhere, Manchester City cruised past Burnley 5-1, aided by two own goals from defender Maxime Esteve, while Erling Haaland bagged a late brace to reach 15 goals in nine outings for club and country.

Chelsea’s woes deepened with a 3-1 loss to Brighton, their second straight defeat marred by a red card. Enzo Fernandez gave the Blues a first-half lead, but Trevoh Chalobah’s dismissal for a last-man foul shifted momentum. Brighton capitalised through Danny Welbeck’s double and a Maxim De Cuyper strike.

At Elland Road, Eli Kroupi’s late goal earned Bournemouth a 2-2 draw with Leeds, capping a dramatic day of Premier League action.
