New Delhi, Jul 27: The thrilling all-Indian final at the FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup between Koneru Humpy and Divya Deshmukh is set for a dramatic finish, with the champion to be decided via a tie-breaker after both classical games ended in draws.
In Game 2, played on Sunday, Humpy had the white pieces but was unable to break through Divya’s resilient defence. The match culminated in a draw by repetition, with Divya forcing the outcome by delivering a series of consecutive checks that left Humpy with no viable options to press for a win.
This followed Saturday’s Game 1, which also ended in a tense draw, setting the stage for a winner-takes-all tie-breaker clash on Monday.

The upcoming tie-breaks will see the players compete in faster time controls, testing their nerves and speed in rapid and possibly blitz formats.
Both players have displayed exceptional composure and tactical depth throughout the tournament, making Monday’s showdown a fitting climax to what has already been a historic campaign for Indian chess.
Stay tuned as India is guaranteed a champion, but the question remains — Will experience triumph or will youthful flair take the crown?
