Recipes - Rava Muttlim (Dumplings)


2 cups idli rava
4 cups water
2 cups scrapped coconut
1 tbsp. ghee or oil
½ tsp. mustard
1 tsp. urad dal
¼ tsp. methi seeds
2 sprig curry leaves
Salt as per taste


Mix rava and water in a thick bottomed vessel. Add coconut and salt. Heat ghee/oil and splutter mustard. Add urad dal, methi, curry leaves and fry until light brown. Pour this into the rava mixture and mix well.  Keep the vessel with rava mixture on slow fire and keep stirring until the mixture thickens. Allow it to cool. Later make round dumplings and steam them for 10 minutes or until cooked. Serve them hot with onion chutney.

Onion Chutney:


2 Medium onions
2 tbsp. coconut oil
1 tsp chilly powder
1 tbsp scrapped coconut
1 seed sized tamarind soaked in little water.
Salt as per taste.


Heat oil in a pan, add finely chopped onion and fry until pink. Add chilly powder, salt along with tamarind water. Lastly add coconut and fry for a minute.
