Mangalore: Teachers, lecturers demand salary increment

Mangalore, Feb 13: Demanding a salary increment and an increase in house rent allowance; the Karnataka State teachers - lecturers action committee staged a protest in front of DC office on Wednesday February 13.

Addressing the protest, Shivashankar Bhat K, president of Dakshina Kannada district committee said, "the teachers and lecturers receive less salary when compared to that of other states".





They also demanded to merge the special wages which they receive into their basic pay.

Speaking about the house rent allowance, he said for Bangalore city, HRA was hiked from 25 to 30%. "With implementation of this, it shows that 5 lac teachers who are in rural areas are neglected.  The government should soon consider this and increase the HRA even to the teachers of rural areas", he added.

As a part of this, a memorandum was submitted to the district commissioner placing their demands.

Ramakrishna Allar, chief secretary, Ramakrishna Shiroor among others were present.

    People,

    I think in this world,,,people who work hard are hardly paid and people who hardly work are paid hard cash....

    Good thing about it is in next world,,, sitting arrangement is reversed,,, last first and first last....so teachers wait patiently for your salary and perks in Paradise.....

    Goventment paid college teachers get too much they don't work hard. Most times they are busy making money giving tutions -which is illegal. When police raid, they run for life from backdoors. Govt paid teachers are shamelss. All the time making money and gossiping. They call 'professors', but no research or good PhD. Steal somebody's work and publish for big salary force students to write their phd. Is this deserve salary? For stealing and laziness? They must prove their worth by publishing in international journals, not their college magazines. Many of our "professors" can't even write a letter to the editor. Shamelss fellos.

    Primary and high school teachers need more salary they work more hours, plus do lot of student activities. But paid 3-4-5 thousands rupees to start! Shame on government.

    Dear teachers you all know that this B.J.P.govrenment have no funds to run the state any how now the days are near for to close the five year term my humble request to all teachers is that while you vote for the next election please choose the good party candidate its your freedom and wish to vote any party and now our students will be facing exams hope your protest will not harm the students what your doing is right let your dist president go to the chief minister hope he solves

    Service of both Health & Education departments are basic necessity for the welfare of the Society. Now a days salary disbursement of both of these departments is delayed for several months. Govt. has to alert and give them good facility and disburse the salary in time before they revolt and cause for destruction of the Society.

    It is a wake up call to the government, where teachers are asking for their rights inspite of their relentless duty. It should be noted at this point of time, where teachers and law & order personnel (Police) are paid very less when compared to Europe and other western countries. One has to note the hard work performed by the police in maintaining disciple during rough weather. Teachers are the one who educate us (academically) to earn white collared jobs and guide us to lead a good mannered life. Can anyone (authority) seriously think of upgrading the system not only by improving the salary standards but by improving their living pattern?

    A genuine deserving demand. Salary is the only source of income for the teachers, who shape the country's future. One day's corruption amount of the country can meet this demand thousand times!!
