Mangaluru, Jul 4: The verification process of tracking illegal immigrants was held at Rosario Hall on Monday July 4.

In the last one week Mangaluru police have been conducting a drive to identify illegal immigrants.

On Monday, the final verification of suspicious individuals or individuals who have not given all the needed details was conducted although it is not necessary that all are illegal immigrants.

Speaking to media, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, “The home minister during his visit to Mangaluru directed the police to keep a track on illegal immigrants. Several labourers come from other districts for employment. We can see them working in railway stations, airports, factories, fishing activities and so on. So there is possibility of Bangladeshi immigrants staying here.

“In the last one week, we have been conducting a drive in all Police station limits to identify suspicious labourers and have taken their details. The final verification of documents of 518 persons is underway. We will check their Aadhar card, voter ID, phone numbers, track their mobiles, bank transaction details, pictures in mobile phones and whether they are in touch with Bangladeshis. There are labourers from Assam, Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. We have identified 4,000 labourers out of which 518 could not produce sufficient documents and they will go for final verification to establish their existence,” he said.

It may be recalled, 38 Sri Lankans were detained in Mangaluru last year.

People coming from various Indian States cannot be called immigrants as they have a democratic right to work anywhere in India. With so much corruption in the last 7-8 years, there is every possibility terrorists from other countries can slip in easily into India. All they need to do is grease the dirty hands of officials. So, is it right to blame the illegal coming into the country? Find the root cause and eliminate the pandemic corruption and the problem will get solved easily. Unfortunately, current atmosphere is ripe for such situations.

When the border and the environment in Mamata-desh is conducive for illegal immigrants to come from Bangladesh, what will you do? If you send them back, they will come in troves and probably even get voter ID and Aadhar card with address in Mamata-desh. On the other hand, I understand that the laborers are not only loyal, but are on duty anytime you want, hard working and are dependable compared to locals who are demanding, less punctual and completely unreliable (inconsistent attendance wise). So, instead of treating them like criminals, kindly give them reasonable time to return on their own and come with proper documentation. Find a way to make it legal so that their rights are not compromised and there is flexibility available for employers in India. Security angle is also equally important and do not want to play down the same.

Dear, the Modi is the PM of India. PM is responsible for the security at the borders including those at Bangladesh borders are vested with 56 Inch. And also for your kind information Bangla Desh is growing much faster than India and the per capita income is much more than Indians which means the residents earn much more than average Indians. Why on earth they will come to India? If they have indeed come as you claim then its a clear case for the PM and HM to resign and pack their bags as it shows their incompetency and utter failure to secure the borders.

Very inhuman drive. Out of politics, the govt and its bhakths fail to see the ramification of this decision. This will result in lesser no of labourers coming to Mangalore and ultimately increase labour costs. I cant imagine how a labourer who comes to mangalore to earn a living is made to sit for hours under suspicion, to prove his nationality. And by chance if he doesnt have his documents in place, there is chance of him to get detained in the illegal migrant camp and spend lakhs in the court. Very inhuman and shameful drive, in my opinion. As an outsider, living in uae, we are treated with more respect. Even haters living in gulf are not treated like this.

After 911 every travellers required to go check in airports which was too much hassle for no fault of ordinary citizens followed every rule and go to such difficultly at the fault of few came from aliens world to destroy others. Whole world is going to this challenge to keep out terrorist and make a safer place for everyone to. Live peacefully. Even many western nations opened doors for refugees but many came here and did the same shit of dangerous activities . Sometimes it is better to validate identity of all illegal immigrants so that locals can live in peace. Yes it is difficult for poor labourers but few in that group may be a bad apple affiliated with dangerous groups

If such drive is conducted in Bangalore, you may get illegal immigrants from Andhra, Tamilnadu and Kerala totalling about 40% of population. Mangalore being a smaller city, these cops and politicians must have found it an easier place to do the eye wash of finding illegal immigrants. First of all, definition of illegal immigrants is itself questionable. Is it necessary that all citizens should carry an ID wherever they go? Just harassment of poor people it looks like.
