Rohtak (Haryana), Nov 1: BJP president Nitin Nabin on Sunday accused the Congress of attempting to run the country's democracy according to the "law of the Gandhi family" and said the party should have apologised to the Sikh community for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots instead of organising protest rallies in the national capital.
Nabin was addressing the BJP's 'Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao' rally in Haryana's Rohtak. His remarks were directed at the INDIA bloc's 'Dilli Chalo' rally being held at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, the BJP chief alleged that an atmosphere of chaos and instability was being deliberately created across the country. He also accused Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi of acting at the behest of foreign powers and serving as a tool for their agendas.

"He seeks to challenge our nation's democracy based on the directives of these foreign entities. Their associates, members of the Communist Party and certain Congress leaders, talk about 'regime change'. But this government has been formed by the mandate of the people; no one can even lay a finger on it," Nabin said.
He alleged that the Congress should have sought atonement for the massacre of Sikhs in 1984 and apologised to the community.
"Yet, today, they have taken to the streets to protest. I ask, on behalf of the people in this democracy, Rahul Gandhi, when our Sikh brothers were being slaughtered and a full-scale massacre was unfolding, your father (Rajiv Gandhi) remarked that 'when a big tree falls, the earth shakes'. Because of that statement, so many of our Sikh brothers lost their lives. You should have felt remorse and apologised, but instead you are carrying out protests," he said.
Nabin further alleged that the Congress was frustrated after failing to secure the people's mandate and was therefore targeting Constitutional institutions.
He said Congress leaders should first establish democracy within their own party by ending what he described as Rahul Gandhi's dynastic control.
"If Congress leaders had the courage, they would first end Rahul Gandhi's dynastic rule within the party and establish democracy in the Congress. Instead, party leaders believe that even the country's law should be made according to Rahul Gandhi and his family," he alleged.
Referring to the Allahabad High Court's 1975 verdict setting aside then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's election over the misuse of government machinery and barring her from contesting elections for six years, Nabin described it as an example of the Congress' alleged legacy of electoral malpractice and disrespect for the people's mandate.
"This is the Congress' legacy of stealing votes and disrespecting the people's mandate," he said.
Responding to the Opposition's allegations that 13 crore votes had been deleted, the BJP president claimed that the party and its NDA allies could provide detailed accounts of every deleted vote.
"Any worker from our party, the NDA, or even one of our local unit presidents can provide a detailed account for every single one of those 13 crore deleted votes," he asserted.
Accusing the Opposition of trying to protect infiltrators, Nabin said BJP and NDA workers would ensure that those who had allegedly entered the country illegally were sent back.
"I declare that as long as the workers of the BJP and the NDA are here, they will ensure these infiltrators are driven out of the country. Under no circumstances will these infiltrators be granted any rights," he said.
Nabin reiterated that democracy must function according to the Constitution and not the interests of any political family.
"It has become clear that you wish to run democracy according to the 'law' of the Gandhi family. But democracy must be governed by the nation's Constitution, which is worshipped by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi has always upheld the democracy of this nation," he said.
