Mangaluru: Law student sexual harassment - Police accused of humiliating victim

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 7: In connection with the alleged sexual harassment meted out to a law student by an advocate, the investigating officer in the case has been accused of humiliating the victim. Social activist, Prasanna Ravi, who made this allegation, has demanded for replacing the investigating officer in the case.

Prasanna Ravi also directed her anger at the city police commissioner. She said she is not bothered by what the police officers do in their personal lives. "They can sing or do other things in their personal lives. But they have to concentrate on finding the accused," she added. She also stated that the activists had ensured that the accused did not get bail, but the police commissioner claimed credit for doing this.

She demanded to change the investigating officer in the case and handover the case to deputy police commissioner, Hariram Shankar. "The police commissioner says that four teams have been formed to investigate the case. But the investigating officer who summoned the victim questions her why she pursues the case, duly mentioning that the wife of the accused is worried. They say a lookout notice has been issued for locating the accused but the railway authorities say they do not have received any documents on this issue," she said.

She further said that she has no personal enmity against the police commissioner and holds him in high esteem. "I am frustrated because of these acts. Even though we provided information about the accused, nothing came out of it. When we seek permission to protest, they cite the election code of conduct. At the same time, others indulge in protests. Moreover, they have termed the students who fight for a cause, as useless," she claimed.

The way law enforcement agencies have proceeded against the accused person, suggests the involvment of high profile persons from "behind the scene". Remember he was a SPP. May be he was handling many sensitive criminal cases before the Lokayukta court. The "vested interest" group in Mangalore may have pressurized the SPP to show some leniency in "some cases" which Mr. Rajesh would have rejected outright. The law intern may have been hired to teach him a lesson, and a false sexual harassment case may have been foisted against him. The lobby wants to divert the attention of public by introducing trivial matters in the case. Many such cases have taken place in the past. Also, the interns may have been planted in his office to divert the public attention from high profile corruption cases to decisively oust the SPP from "those cases". The lobby which I was referring here may be "criminals lobby" or local advocates lobby which generally defend high profile cases. Normally, any complaint against an advocate is first referred to Bar council, but the way it is dealt with suggests that "many things" are not OK with this case. The police have not acted like this in any earlier cases. He is not a hard core criminal yet he was treated like one. The lobby which is working from behind is first to be exposed to unravel the whole truth. One should never believe any news until it is "properly verified" using "proven techniques". May "The Truth" prevail always.

The Advocate keeps hiding/gone underground but for how long ? That proves his guilt and bad conduct with the law student. "Innocence is the weakest defense. Innocence has a single voice that can only say over and over again, "I didn't do it." Guilt has a thousand voices, all of them lies."

This is very common- if there is a complaint against any one in authority the first response is to defame the victim. Sad but true .

According to Bureau of Police Research and Development , there is a circular that clearly states that anyone more than 65 age, less than 15 age and any woman should not be called for questioning to the police station. They have to be questioned at home. Do authorities lack basic knowledge of rules of their own department?

If four teams cannot find a citizen of a city, how will they find a terrorist. Most wanted terrorist Yasin Bhatkal stayed a Attavar Mangalore for a long time without being arrested. What she said about singing is also correct, they have to do their duty first, and they are paid for that....not for singing.

"But the investigating officer who summoned the victim questions her why she pursues the case, duly mentioning that the wife of the accused is worried.", The investigating officer is worried about the wife of the accused and not the affected. If this is in the case of a Law student,,,,what justice we can expect from the Law......??????
