Mangaluru: Student interns accuse advocate Rajesh of sexual harassment

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 19: Two law student interns have filed complaints in the women's police station here, against special public prosecutor, K S N Rajesh of the Lokayukta division here, accusing him of sexual harassment and threat. A case has been registered against the advocate concerned.

City police commissioner, Shashi Kumar, speaking on the issue, said that two law students have given two separate complaints against the advocate and a case has been filed. One of the complaints relates to sexual harassment of a girl student who was under internship with the advocate, and the other pertains to leading a friend of the aggrieved lady in the guise of counselling and legal assistance, taking her to Maidan on the way where she was threatened and pressurized to issue statement that suits his interests.

The commissioner said that the investigation in such cases should be transparent. Being a serious case, the investigation has been entrusted to city south assistant commissioner of police, Ranjith, he stated. Relating to the same case, the advocate has filed a complaint in Urwa police station three days back, claiming that the girl has been blackmailing him for money, the commissioner stated.

An 11.55-minute conversation between the aggrieved lady and the advocate has become viral. The advocate can be heard in the audio saying that he had committed a mistake once, and seeking an apology. He also is heard urging her to come to his office for her internship. The girl on her part says she will never see his face again and that being the father of girls, he was wrong in doing what he did.

Rajesh has denied the allegations made by the girl, adding that no such incident had ever happened. "This is a well-planned conspiracy hatched against me by a number of people. The complainant visited my office three to four times after the day on which the incident reportedly happened. This is a plan involving two girls who want to extract money from me and to tarnish my image," he stated. He said he had complained to the Kadri police but they did not take any action.

The way law enforcement agencies have proceeded against the accused person, suggests the involvment of high profile persons from "behind the scene". Remember he was a SPP. May be he was handling many sensitive criminal cases before the Lokayukta court. The "vested interest" group may have pressurized the SPP to show leniency in "some cases" which Mr. Rajesh would have rejected outright. In order to teach him a lesson, a false sexual harassment case may have been foisted against him. The lobby wants to divert the attention of public by introducing trivial matters in the case. Many such cases have taken place in the past. Also, the interns may have been planted in his office to change the course of "planning" and execution to decisively oust the SPP from "those cases". The lobby which I was referring here may be "criminals lobby" or local advocates lobby which generally defend high profile cases. Normally, any complaint against an advocate is first referred to Bar council, but the way it is dealt with suggests that "many things" are not OK with this case. The lobby which is working from behind is first to be exposed to unravel the whole truth. One should never believe any news until it is "properly verified" using "proven techniques". May "The Truth" prevail always.

Why do we still call sexual harassment charges as allegations in India? Shouldn't we call them as judgements? Why do we need justice if all guys are guilty until proven innocent? Why are perfect crimes against women increasing exponentially? Enjoy 🙏

It may be true that the woman might have trapped the person. It could be also possible that the man has abused the woman. Unless a thorough enquiry is done no one should be arrested on prima facie evidence Thorough investigation is needed before any real action.

Police have no option but to record the complaints and if they sound genuine, have to set the wheels of law in motion, whoever the accused is, and even if the accused turns tables on the complainant. Complaints of both the accused and the cross-accused, whether true or false have to be investigated wherever it leads, in a transparent manner. Gender should not be an issue.

Yes the lawyer might have tried to sexually abuse the intern but we all know we can't clap with one hand, it is safe to say that the girl might have lead him on, Pretty sure that an educated lawyer won't do it out of the blue , if you have heard the audio tape the girl repeatedly says, " What will I get?" " You are a rich man" , " This can spoil your professional and family life and you can lose it all" . If proven guilty the lawyer should be punished severely and if it's just another case of honey trapping by women trying to extort money , she should be punished severely too.
