Mangalore, Jan 9: "Knowledge of local languages is necessary for all.  More so, for people who are involved in governance, so that they understand the pulse of the people with whom they deal both on professional as well as social front.  If they want their plans and project to be implemented in an efficient manner, they should have the working knowledge of the local languages," said deputy commissioner Dr H V Parshwanath.

He was speaking after inaugurating the "Bale Tulu Kalpuga", a crash course to learn Tulu organized by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy on Sunday January 8.  The three-month course has already 22 students.  The classes will be held from 6 to 8 pm on every Wednesday and Thursday.  The fee has been fixed at Rs 250 for the entire course.  Four noted, well-versed teachers will take the classes.

Well-known folklore scholar Prof Amrit Someshwar was the chief guest of the inaugural function, while Tulu academy president M K Sitaram Kulal presided over the function.
