Mangaluru: Road near DC office turns into muddy mess, public faces daily hardship

Mangaluru, Jun 19: While the coastal region is witnessing a weaker-than-expected monsoon, the problems faced by the public due to poor road conditions in Mangaluru continue to remain a major concern.

The road adjacent to the deputy commissioner’s (DC) office at Padil has turned into a muddy stretch, creating severe difficulties for citizens who visit the administrative complex every day for official work.

Thousands of people, including senior citizens seeking government services, are forced to wade through muddy water to reach the DC office premises. The poor condition of the road has caused immense inconvenience to both pedestrians and motorists.

According to local residents, the issue has worsened due to the failure to clear the soil accumulated along the roadside and the lack of proper maintenance of the rainwater drainage system. Residents and motorists had reportedly requested the authorities to take preventive measures before the monsoon season began.

However, with the first few spells of rain, the road has once again turned into a waterlogged and muddy area, making daily travel an ordeal.

The irony is that the deteriorating road lies right next to the office of the district administration, the very body that addresses public grievances across the Dakshina Kannada district. Despite the highly visible condition of the road, citizens allege that no immediate remedial action has been taken by the concerned authorities.

The public is now urgently appealing to the district administration to repair the road, clear the roadside mud, and restore the drainage system to prevent further hardship as the rainy season progresses.
