Mangaluru, Jan 31: Mount Carmel Central School, Mangaluru organised a legal awareness programme in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mangaluru, on January 31 with the objective of sensitising students to important social and legal issues and promoting legal literacy among young minds.
The programme commenced with a prayer song, invoking god’s blessings for the meaningful conduct of the event. This was followed by a warm welcome address by Purnima on behalf of the school, which underscored the significance of legal awareness as a vital tool for empowerment, protection, and responsible citizenship among students.













The distinguished resource persons from the District Legal Services Authority, advocate Manasa G Hegde and advocate Ashwini Suvarna, were formally welcomed by the vice principal, Sr Teena, with roses as a token of respect and appreciation.
Advocate Ashwini Suvarna addressed the gathering with an enlightening session on road safety, stressing the importance of discipline and responsible behaviour on roads. She clearly explained traffic rules and regulations and highlighted that under-age driving is a punishable offence under the law. Her session effectively sensitised students to their duties and responsibilities as present and future road users.
Following this, advocate Manasa G Hegde delivered an informative and impactful talk on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the prevention of child marriage. She elaborated on the legal provisions in a simple and student-friendly manner, citing real-life examples to emphasise the seriousness of such offences and the legal safeguards available for the protection and welfare of children.
Both the sessions were highly interactive and engaging, enabling students to develop a clearer understanding of legal rights, responsibilities, and the role of law in safeguarding their well-being.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Reshma D’Souza, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the resource persons, the District Legal Services Authority, the school management, and all those who contributed to the successful organisation of the programme.
The legal awareness programme proved to be an enriching and empowering initiative, reinforcing the importance of legal knowledge in shaping informed, responsible, and law-abiding citizens.
