Jaipur, Mar 19: A tragic accident in Jaisalmer claimed the lives of two young cousins after they came into contact with a live high-tension wire that had fallen onto a road during heavy rainfall and strong winds, officials reported.
The incident occurred in the Sagar police station area on Wednesday night when an 11 kV power line snapped due to adverse weather conditions. Around 9 p.m., Vikram Singh (25) and Raju Singh (20) were riding a motorcycle to their fields. Poor visibility in the dark prevented them from noticing the live wire, resulting in fatal electrocution. Both died instantly.

Authorities were alerted on Thursday when passersby discovered the bodies. Police reached the scene and recovered the victims.
Local residents have expressed anger over alleged negligence by the Rajasthan Electricity Department, claiming prior complaints about the unstable power line had not been addressed.
The region has been experiencing extreme weather due to a Western Disturbance, bringing continuous rainfall and strong gusty winds across several districts. While the rains have temporarily eased high temperatures, they have also created hazardous conditions, as seen in this fatal incident.
The unseasonal weather has also damaged agriculture in Jaisalmer and Barmer. Standing crops of cumin (jeera) and isabgol (psyllium husk) have suffered extensive losses, prompting the Agriculture Department to initiate damage assessments.
Daytime temperatures across Rajasthan have dropped by around nine degrees Celsius, providing relief from the heat but also raising concerns among farmers and residents about the impact of sudden weather changes.
