Mangaluru, Sep 11: “A plan has been drawn up to provide counselling services in every degree and pre-university college. From next month, professional counsellors will be appointed in all colleges to conduct counselling sessions for students. Along with this, initiatives will be taken to organize programmes in each educational institution of the constituency to provide information to students’ parents on self-reliance, self-employment training, and government schemes,” said Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath.

He was speaking after inaugurating a district-level campaign under the Gram Samparka Abhiyana, organized at Shakthinagar Nalyapadavu Government Pre-University College for the parents of PU students. The event was held under the leadership of Dakshina Kannada District Pre-University College Principals’ Association, Mangaluru, Media Centre Thokkottu, Ullal Taluk Working Journalists’ Association, in collaboration with Vijaya Rural Development Foundation Mangaluru, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Mangaluru, horticulture department Mangaluru, Bharatiya Vikas Trust Manipal, and Selco India.
Kamath said that such programmes undertaken by organizations are important for the country’s future as they aim to build a secure and progressive India. The initiatives have been envisioned with the dream of a developed India in mind, and it is commendable that social organizations are arranging programmes that should ideally be organized by the government and public representatives. He stressed that when government schemes are introduced to people, they bring joy, achievement, and self-reliance in their lives.
“Self-reliant India, empowered India, and developed India are our nation’s dreams. Although government programmes, responsibilities, and services support this vision, the schemes are not reaching the people effectively. Currently, out of one lac people, only five receive information about government schemes. Despite spending hours daily on social media, people are not making efforts to access these schemes. Nearly four hours a day are wasted on social media. To address this issue, it is necessary to systematically initiate knowledge-sharing activities,” he stated.
The programme was presided over by Jayananda N Suvarna, president of the Dakshina Kannada District PU College Principals’ Association. Shakthinagar Nalyapadavu Government PU College Development Committee vice-president Purushotham Bhat, Shakthinagar Nalyapadavu Government High School headmaster Dr Prashanth Kumar, Shakthinagar Nalyapadavu Kuvempu Centenary Model Higher Primary School headmistress Dakshayini, association’s designated president Naveen Kumar Shetty, Paduvu Friends Club president Kushal Kumar, and CDC member Ashok Nayak were present.

MLA Kamath added, “Students sometimes suffer from stress, hardships, and crucial turning points in life. To guide them through these challenges, proper psychological counselling is essential. To make their future clearer, counselling will be prioritized in every degree and pre-university college, utilizing local resources and expert counsellors.”
