Udupi: Four held within 12 hours in house theft case; gold ornaments worth Rs 4.47 lac recovered

Udupi, Mar 14: The Manipal police have apprehended the accused involved in a house theft case within 12 hours of the incident. Gold ornaments worth Rs 4,47,000 have been recovered from the accused.

The arrested have been identified as Santosh (20), a native of Vijayapura, and Chirantan (21), a resident of Badanidiyoor. Two juveniles in conflict with law have also been taken into custody in connection with the case.

Sangeetha Madivala, a resident of Shanthinagar in 80 Badagabettu village, had locked her house and gone to her mother’s residence on the morning of March 12. When she returned in the afternoon, she found that thieves had removed the roof tiles of the house and entered inside.

The miscreants had stolen gold, silver and cash kept in the cupboard. Following her complaint, a case was registered at the Manipal police station and a special team was formed to trace the culprits.

On March 13, the accused were found standing suspiciously near Sheembara bridge. The police apprehended them and recovered the stolen gold ornaments from their possession.
