Bengaluru, Jul 25: In a major initiative to enhance digital learning in government educational institutions, the Karnataka department of school education and literacy has approved the implementation of the ‘Jnana Setu’ programme in collaboration with Khan Academy. The initiative aims to improve the academic performance of students from classes 6 to 12 in government schools and pre-university (PU) colleges across the state.
Under the programme, one day per week will be dedicated to digital learning in 21,726 higher primary schools, 4,821 high schools, and 1,229 PU colleges. Existing LED projectors and smart boards in these institutions will be utilised to deliver the lessons.

Students will be able to access STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) content through Khan Academy’s website and mobile app. Simultaneously, teachers and lecturers will receive training on how to use Khanmigo, an AI-based teaching tool from Khan Academy, to deliver effective digital instruction.
Every Saturday, a teaching period will be allocated for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education through Khan Academy India. Digital learning groups will be formed for peer learning sessions, and students demonstrating strong progress will be identified and encouraged.
To ensure the successful implementation of the programme, workshops and webinars will be conducted to train educators on how to use Khan Academy India's digital resources effectively in teaching and learning practices. Additionally, each block will appoint digital mentors to support teachers.
A third-party evaluation agency will be assigned to monitor the programme's progress, and regular reviews will be conducted at the state level. The director of state educational research and training will act as the implementing officer, while the state project director of Samagra Shikshana Karnataka will oversee the programme’s execution, according to the official order.
