Mangaluru, Jul 25: The valedictory ceremony for the 13th batch of the PG Diploma in Guidance and Counseling (PGDGC), titled ‘Pathfinders’, and the inauguration of the 14th batch, ‘Alchemists’, were held at the St Agnes PG Centre auditorium on Friday, July 25.

Dr Giridhar Salian, director of the Karnataka German Technical Training Institute, addressing the gathering, congratulated the outgoing batch and wished the incoming batch success in their journey. “I thank the management for introducing the PGDGC programme, which is vital in today’s competitive environment. Every educational institution, whether a school or college, should adopt such initiatives,” he said.

“Today, we are witnessing an alarming number of youth struggling with depression, suicide, and involvement in anti-social activities, which pose a serious threat to society. We must guide them toward the right path. It is important to build inner strength to overcome weaknesses without exposing them to others. Cultivating ethical values like responsibility and helpfulness is crucial. One must learn to anticipate, adapt to, and enjoy change,” he added.

In her presidential address, Dr M Venissa AC, principal of St Agnes College, stated, “Beyond knowledge, it is skills and empathy that matter most once you step into the field of counselling.”

Sr Marie Evelyn, former head of the department of psychology at St Agnes College, urged the graduates to embrace lifelong learning, stay updated, and be open to new perspectives.

Lolita Rodrigues presented the PGDGC annual report, while Dr Sharmila Kumari and A Venkatesh Prasad shared insights from their journeys as members of the ‘Pathfinders’ batch.

Also present on the occasion were Sr Vinora, coordinator of St Agnes PG and Research Centre, and Lugina Miranda, coordinator of the PGDGC programme.

Anitha Lobo welcomed the gathering, Jeevan Pereira proposed the vote of thanks, and Reena Monteiro compered the event.
