Israel to permit airdrop of foreign aid into Gaza amid rising starvation deaths

Tel Aviv, Jul 25: In a significant move amid growing international concern, Israel will reportedly allow foreign countries to air-drop humanitarian aid into Gaza starting Friday, according to Israeli army radio citing a senior military official.

The Israeli military has yet to confirm the report officially. However, the development comes as global pressure mounts over the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian enclave.

The Gaza health ministry claims that over 100 people have died from starvation since Israel halted aid supplies in March. Though the blockade was lifted in May, Israel continues to impose strict controls, citing the need to prevent aid from reaching Hamas and other militant groups.

Humanitarian agencies warn the situation remains dire. The United Nations children's agency, UNICEF, treated 5,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition in Gaza during the first two weeks of July alone.

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has described the crisis as “man-made mass starvation,” directly blaming the continuing blockade on aid.

Israel has been engaged in a war with Hamas since October 2023, following a deadly attack by the group. Since then, the humanitarian situation in Gaza has steadily deteriorated, prompting urgent calls for unimpeded aid access.
