Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, July 17: A compound wall collapsed late on July 16 night at Maryhill, causing significant damage to multiple parked vehicles. The incident occurred at around 11:15 pm, reportedly following heavy rains.

According to eyewitnesses, nearly 8 to 10 two-wheelers and a car parked beneath the wall were damaged as the structure gave way. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Residents rushed out on hearing a loud crash and immediately alerted local authorities. Emergency teams arrived at the spot and cleared the debris to prevent further hazards.

The incident has raised concerns over structural safety and drainage management in the area, especially during the monsoon season.

Some compound wall (laterite stone) may be decades old (possible 100 years) and now due to heavy down pour (cloud burst situation) these walls are coming down. That proves what is rain now is not simply soothing rain like in the forgone times people used to say biri biri Barsa. Once started used to continue for two weeks nonstop. Hardly there were incident of water drains were overflowing, or Riverbanks were reaching danger level mark very often.

Mary Hill, Hat Hill, top of Bijai 4th crossroad and Chilimbi all these areas are developed simply by cutting Hills for residential purpose. Like Citi mall touching Light house Hill. Also, next to Soorabi Bar & Restaurant! God forbid.
