Rae Bareli’s Shivam Singh secures 73rd rank in UPSC, realises dream of becoming IAS officer

Rae Bareli, July 6: Shivam Singh, a native of Pakra village in Rae Bareli’s Dalmau block, has brought pride to his district and state by securing the 73rd rank in the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024. With this remarkable feat, Shivam has fulfilled his long-cherished dream of becoming an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.

Hailing from a modest background, Shivam’s journey to success is a testament to perseverance and grit. His father, Ram Naresh Singh, runs a small stationery kiosk near Vikas Bhavan, while his mother is a homemaker. Despite limited resources, the family supported Shivam’s aspirations wholeheartedly. His elder brother works in the private sector.

Shivam completed his early schooling and intermediate education in Rae Bareli, followed by a BTech from a private college in Lucknow. He went on to earn an MTech from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in 2019. It was during his time at IIT that Shivam’s interest in civil services began to take root.

His first taste of success came in 2021, when he cleared the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) exam with the 38th rank, earning a posting as a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM). While serving in this role, Shivam continued to prepare for the UPSC, determined to reach the IAS cadre.

In his first attempt at the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2023, Shivam secured the 878th rank — not high enough for an IAS appointment. Undeterred, he redoubled his efforts and returned stronger in 2024 to secure the 73rd rank, sealing his place in the Indian Administrative Service.

Currently undergoing training as a Customs and GST officer in Palasamudram, Andhra Pradesh, Shivam’s determination has become an inspiration for aspiring civil servants across the country.

Speaking to reporters, his proud father said, “Shivam never complained about the difficulties we faced. He always believed he would achieve something big, and today, he has proven it.”

The entire district is celebrating his success, with Shivam’s story resonating deeply among youth striving to overcome adversity. His achievement stands as a shining example of how unwavering focus and hard work can turn even the most challenging circumstances into stepping stones to success.
