Mangaluru: Railway employees’ negligence – Man’s mortal remains left in train toilet for 24 hours

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Apr 25: In an incident of utter negligence by the railway employees, the mortal remains of a passenger, who was arriving to Mangaluru from Mumbai, went back to Mumbai as he died in the toilet of the train on the journey.

Mohan Bangera (56), a native of Mennabettu of Kinnigoli who was coming to native place from Mumbai, died of cardiac arrest. His family members, without knowing what happened, searched for him from Mangaluru to Mumbai in all railway stations. However, the railway employees who were supposed to check the toilet of the respective bogie did not check and gave false report that they have checked the same.

The enraged family members said, “We have paid Rs 10000 for an agency to send the mortal remains back to Mangaluru from Mumbai. However, when we received the parcel, the body of Mohan Bangera was completely decomposed and foul smell was emanating. If this is the plight of a passenger travelling by AC bogie, what kind of help passengers travelling in other class bogies can expect from the railway department? This is utter negligence and dereliction of duty of the railway employees. We have applied for compensation also.”

Mohan Bangera was running a milk parlour in Mumbai since many years. His wife and two sons are residing in Kinnigoli.

Mohan was travelling to Mangaluru from Mumbai on April 18. His brother and others were waiting at Surathkal railway station to receive him. However, they got the news from TTE of railway that Mohan Bangera is missing. His bag, purse and mobile was found on the seat where he was sitting. When the family members enquired with TTE, he said that Mohan might have got down at Kankavali or Madgaon. The CCTV footage of that station might give some evidence. Later, the family members went to Mangaluru Junction and raised a missing complaint.

In the midst of this development, the relatives of Mohan checked CCTV footage of stations in Mumbai but no clue was found. On the following day, Ram Bangera, elder brother of Mohan Bangera received call from TTE of CST railway station who informed that body of Mohan Bangera was found in the toilet of the AC bogie in which he was travelling.

Ram Bangera says, “The mortal remains of my younger brother had arrived to Mangaluru in the toilet of the bogie. However, the employees did not search properly. He would have been saved even if there was a remote chance. However, due to false reporting of the railway employees, the body went back to Mumbai.”

OMG. I can't belive something like this can happen in a train Mumbai to Mangalore in a public toilet. Strict action on assigned cleaner and supervisor. If only supervision is good efficiency increases. Imagine the emotional trauma on family!!!

Here we strongly blame on co-passengers who seated beside Bangera and not taken any account why did he not returned so long as his valuable items lying as it is. If you have taken precaution earlier by some one chances are more he might have survived. Careless travellers who only think of themselves more. If not at least informed any of railway attendants fellow passenger not returned to seat..delayed much.

Very very very right sir 👍 ✔ People are really not bothered about who is sitting next to him not even next door neighbor. Now everyone follow one simple rule...."me myself and god for everyone"...for ex... just yesterday, i went to a small restaurant to relish upon the evening snacks with my friends.. There came a customer who simply picked upon an argument with a weak waiter. Restaurant is very small and congested where people were sitting wherever they found the place, not seeing family or friends....that much crowded......Moreover, too much hot weather..... Waiter just asked him whether he is single or came with this couple??? Just for that reason, he lost his temper and fought like as if somebody looted his property!! Lady sitting opposite to him from Mumbai started fuelling him more n more.... He got more angry and started fighting more n more and reached to a stage where his voice only stopped in anger.... Then owner came and asked him to sit and have the snacks. Then he looked at us. I just said to him let it be. Calm down...Immediately he started abusing me. I told him to calm down just because we thought he might be the patient of hypertension and bp so that no untoward incident should happen to him... All were quiet who seated there. Thats the reason nobody speaks and come forward. When we came out, my stupid friends instead of counseling me said "boda sheera ?" Sometimes, it so happens Bharath ji, passenger leaves the seat and settles comfortably where seats are empty or sleep aram se on the upper berths if train is not fully occupied. His fate is that....om shanthi

Cynthia, another website report states that a neighbouring passenger had complained of the passenger going missing to the TTE, but he didn't take any action!

Ok... possible. TTE and other employees just sleep. After all govt employees !!! Even if a passenger goes to another compartment he would definitely take purse and valuable items where he goes. Since he left all his things on his seat alongwith purse means, definitely co passengers must have been noticed.....If he didnt return for a long time, passengers should have pulled the chain. How co passengers can keep quiet when there was no response from TTE ? Very surprising....Rudy sir, I am confused why did he leave mobile, purse on his seat before going to toilet ? Noone does that...atleast they take purse with them. Dont know what has happened !!!

Cynthia, the news report further states that the deceased person was suffering from stomach problems (assume it's loose motions)! In that case, it's possible that he could have got himself dehydrated by repeatedly going to the wash room and finally fainted; with no one around, he might have died due to complications of acute dehydration! But, why nobody flicked his purse, mobile etc is a big mystery! May his soul RIP!!

Rudy sir, if he had stomach upset from Mumbai, definitely he would have taken tablets from medical store...He is that much matured to drink water or coffee as and when he goes to toilet. A person normally travels with the medicine if he is sick. No one is that careless to leave purse or mobile on his seat for sure. He would have definitely informed his near and dear ones about his ill health. When they didnt find, they should have informed the station master about his sickness when he didnt alight from the train. Rudy sir....i am confused and think that this is not a natural death due to sickness.....

Oh my goodness 😳!!! He is from kinnigoly!! May the departed soul of Shri Bangera rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences to all of his family members and relatives.....Railway employees never work. They eat food and sleep nicely covering themselves with a blanket and getting up in the morning itself. They never check availability of water in the toilets. They never bother to check the people who just get in and simply run and get down at the next station or so. Enjoying thoroughly just like other govt departments like mini vidhana soudha/water dept/land records and like wise. Govt employees!!!

Madam Cynthia..In Sanatana Dharma concept of Punar Janma for that reason it wont applicable mentioning Rest in Peace. We are taking birth in any corner of the time until our sins is washed out completely and our soul-atma purified completely to attain moksha. We know need to wait upto the day of judgment in burial ground to seek justice upto dooms day. After all this universe meant for million years ago...beyond imaginable. Om Shanthi.
