Mangaluru, Jan 18: Former MLA J R Lobo alleged on Wednesday January 18 that unscientific works are being undertaken under Smart City project. He also said that most of the projects to Mangaluru were sanctioned under his tenure and not as claimed by city south MLA Vedavyas Kamath.

Addressing media here on Wednesday J R Lobo said, “The hanging bridge which is expected to be constructed from Boloor to connect Tannirbhavi worth Rs 35 crore will be a complete failure. Instead, if they construct a permanent bridge, it will be helpful. I urge the government to drop the plan of hanging bridge and plan to construct a permanent bridge. The Smart City project funds should have been spent to develop fisheries and port sectors, instead the money has been used for the projects which can be undertaken by Mangaluru City Corporation.

“MLA Kamath claimed that Mangaluru has received Rs 4750 crore funds for development works, but it was under the Congress government’s tenure under Siddaramaiah and in my tenure as an MLA, the projects were sanctioned and now they are implemented. The Jala Siri project worth Rs 760 crore was sanctioned in my tenure. I urge MLA Kamath to release the document which shows the timeline of the projects sanctioned. The BJP objected to the housing project at Shaktinagar claiming that the houses were being constructed on deemed forest land. Now for the second time, MLA Kamath is ready to lay foundation stone who once raised objection during my tenure as an MLA. Even the work has not commenced of multi-level car parking despite of foundation stone laying ceremony several years ago. The AB Shetty circle which is named after a great personality was destroyed. The BJP government does not have proper vision when they undertake any work and they should learn history before taking up any work,” he said.

Congress leaders Shashidhar Hegde, Naveen D’Souza, TK Sudhir, Subodh Alva, Sahul Hameed, Chandrakala and others were present.

Mr JR Lobo did a fine job when he worked as MLA. By normal standards he should have been re-elected in 2018. It's ok, 2023 he needs to get his due. Transparent, systematic and clean delivery with his work...... but exactly opposite nowadays (after 2018) with smart-city works , digging & re-digging all concrete roads, mud flying, unscientific public works we are tired of this mess .... Mr Lobo too has been consistently pointing out and questioning the same-thing from quite sometime now in his press releases.

I agree with you , you have done good work in some areas. The biggest issue with you guys is, you try to appease a certain community , that irrespective of your good work, you are sidelined. Your own people for that matter were upset when you stood for Tippu Jayanthi celebrations. Later you called for an anti CAA protest and then your people hid inside their houses as others got arrested and are still going for court cases . Just last month you tried to challenge NIA for nabbing pressure cooker terrorist, saying its not clear. Despite the culpirt admitting it and providing evidence. Come on ! You cannot blame BJP all the time.

This Is absolutely true. A few days ago an acquaintance of mine - a school teacher -also told the same thing. Mr. Kamath had asked him to write in the report that a particular work of the school was sanctioned by him (which he declined to write) , whereas in reality, it was sanctioned by Mr. Lobo. It looks Mr. Kamath strongly believes Modi's slogan: JOOT BOLO, BAAR BAAR JOOT BOLO...

Yeah right! Come on Sir! If that was the case, you would have been re-elected. Now that Kamath is working 24/7 unlike you guys, you have woken up, jolly well knowing that its hard to dislodge him.

As, Mr. Lobo has suggested, please ask the current MLA Mr. Kamath to furnish documents of when projects were sanctioned. It would put the debate to rest.

Next time, if and when you become MLA don't just sanction a project. Also, complete the projects in your tenure and take all the credit . No one will blame you for it. What is the point in ranting about things that you did not complete and someone else took all the credit ? Most politicians make promises or show project sanctions an year before the elections or just before model code of conduct is in place assuming it will help them win. And once they win, the files will gather dust until next election is announced. Rant less work more. People are smart and will vote candidates who work for them.

You don't need to tell us Mr. Lobo. VKamath is following on footsteps of his higher ups and it is in DNA of BJ party. They take credit for everything which was done during congress regime and pat their own shoulders. If something bad, they throw the monkey on congressis back.

Don’t worry Mr Lobo, your planned project and money sanctioned during your tenure will gladly be received by this 40% corrupt govt and do a sloppy job fit to stand one day of Modi inaugurating it and the next day it will collapse. Then BJP will blame congress and its dead souls for its collapse.
