Mangaluru, Sep 26: Suratkal lighthouse happens to be one of the tourist attractions within the city corporation limits. Union minister for ports, Mansukh Mandaviya, has given his approval for undertaking development works along with the renovation of the said lighthouse.

The directorate general of lighthouses and lightships (DGLL) has finalised the architecture for the lighthouse and tender is expected to be floated shortly.

The lighthouse construction had been started in 1969-70 and completed in 1972. It now stands as one of the leading landmarks of the city. The union minister had been approached with a request to develop the lighthouse and he has upheld the request and permitted to conduct works, said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.

The lighthouse renovation works will include the construction of connecting road, installation of capsule lift, entry gate, security cabin, ticket counter, landscaping, hardscaping, development of lighting and children's play area, turning the current AIS building's ground floor into a gallery and setting up lighthouse operation room in the first floor, development of compound wall around the lighthouse and laying of connecting road between the lighthouse and the beach.

Good news but how about towing the dredger which has been grounded for a long time. It can stay there and be a tourist site as ship wreck for divers. Also the beach needs to cleaned from debris.

Great news. Post renovation would witness increase in the inflow of visitors/tourists to this location which in turn will have an positive outcome on the society.

We had a light house in the heart of the city and there so many visitors to enjoy the park and breeze in the evenings. But now since a residential building has come up and blocking the breeze and the view of the ocean which is very sad for the residents of Mangalore and visitors.

Could have named it after Mulki Sundar Ram Shetty and used it to view potential depositors for the better functioning of the bank. But unfortunately the bank which was founded by Mulki Sundar Ram Shetty has perished. Was it because of " God's Act" ?

Wo are these Ministers sanctioning unwanted stuff ??

    a) Get roads repaired and in driveable conditions
    b) This will lead to lesser accidents and Death rates.
    c) Proper footpaths so people can walk.
    d) proper sanitation and drainage so as to eradicate Malaria and Dengue

If you think that is NOT GOOD and still want to spend , then set up more public 'TOILETS'.

The lighthouse upgrade will not help in better roads or lessen accidents or reduce diseases.

We are still a third world country without these basic needs

GET YOUR ACTS TOGETHER BEFORE YOU WASTE PUBLIC MONEY ON UN-NECESSATITIES .
