Udupi, Jul 20: Mount Rosary School, Santhekatte, organised Vanamahotsava programme at school premises.

Keshav Poojary, forest officer, Hiriyadka, the chief guest of the program said, “Among all the planets known to us, Earth is the only one that supports life. Humans, animals, birds, reptiles, insects, trees and plants all play a vital role in maintaining nature's ecological balance. However, in the name of modernisation and selfish interests, it is only human beings who are working against the environment. Animals and birds pose no threat to the Earth. Ironically, it is the educated and intelligent human who has become the greatest enemy of the planet.”

Addressing the students, Keshav Poojary urged them to safeguard the future by planting and nurturing more trees and allowing animals and birds to thrive in their natural habitats. He emphasised that protecting nature is essential for ensuring a sustainable future for coming generations.

Presiding over the programme, Professor Archibald Furtado said that protecting the environment is the responsibility of every citizen. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign, he encouraged students to plant and care for trees with the same love and affection they show their mothers.

Headmistress Sr Ancilla said that just as fruits do not appear merely by chanting mantras, rainfall will not occur simply through prayers. Instead, she stressed that planting and nurturing trees is the real way to preserve clean soil, water and air, thereby ensuring environmental sustainability.

Students Manveeth and Manvi spoke on the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment. The programme also featured environmental songs, skits and cultural dance performances presented by the students.

As part of the programme, medicinal saplings were planted on the school campus.

Adel welcomed the gathering, while Snehal proposed the vote of thanks. The event was compered by students Advith and Abhisha.
