Miami, Jul 19: Social media personalities Andrew Tate and Tristan Tate were arrested by the US Marshals Service in Miami on Saturday following an extradition request from the United Kingdom, where they are wanted in connection with multiple alleged sexual offences.

According to the UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the allegations stem from incidents involving seven complainants in the East of England between 2010 and 2017.

Andrew Tate faces 42 criminal charges, including allegations of rape, human trafficking, assault and offences related to indecent images of a child. His brother, Tristan Tate, has been charged with 17 offences, including rape, sexual assault and human trafficking, UK authorities said.

Bedfordshire Police said the case follows a lengthy investigation conducted by its Major Crime Unit in coordination with the CPS and law enforcement agencies in the UK and overseas.

The US Department of Justice confirmed that the brothers were arrested as part of extradition proceedings carried out under existing treaties and international law enforcement agreements. They are expected to appear before a federal court in Miami next week.

The Tate brothers have denied all allegations against them.

Their lawyer, Joseph McBride, criticised the UK's extradition request, arguing that Romanian legal proceedings involving the brothers are still ongoing. He claimed there was an understanding between UK and Romanian authorities that extradition would not be pursued until the Romanian cases were resolved.

The brothers have separately been under investigation in Romania, where prosecutors have accused them of trafficking women across Romania, the UK and the United States for the purpose of sexual exploitation. They have consistently rejected those allegations.

Authorities said the latest UK charges include allegations from four additional complainants in the counties of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, leading to an expanded indictment.

Andrew Tate is also facing a civil lawsuit in the UK, filed by four women accusing him of rape. His representatives have previously stated that he "categorically denies" the allegations.

The brothers, who hold both British and American citizenship, relocated to Florida in February 2025 after Romanian authorities eased their travel restrictions. Shortly after their arrival, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced a separate state-level criminal investigation into the brothers.

Andrew Tate, who built a massive online following through videos promoting male dominance, wealth and controversial views on women, has previously been suspended from several major social media platforms. His content has drawn criticism from educators, child protection advocates and policymakers, who argue that it promotes misogyny and harmful attitudes among young audiences.

Commenting on the investigation, Bedfordshire Assistant Chief Constable Karena Thomas reiterated the force's commitment to tackling violence against women and girls, stating that police would continue to support victims and thoroughly investigate all reported offences.

The allegations against Andrew and Tristan Tate remain unproven in court, and both brothers are presumed innocent unless and until found guilty through the legal process.
