Mangaluru, Aug 20: In connection with the reported incident in which satellite phone calls were made to Pakistan from Beltangady and Chikkamagaluru, officials of National Investigation Agency (NIA), New Delhi, have visited the state.
Two deputy superintendents of police level NIA officials have come from Delhi, although two NIA officials from Bengaluru are already on the job. As the callers had reportedly targetted Bengaluru, the NIA officials at Bengaluru have intensified investigation on this point.

It is said that identity of the caller has been rendered difficult as the call was made from the district border. There is no clarity whether both the calls were made by the same person or if two separate calls were made. It is said that the central intelligence wing and research and analysis wing officials have been supporting the investigation.
In all likelihood, the call would have been made by a person who is in close proximity with the locals. The fact that call was made from a border area where network is available, has lent credence to this notion. The officials are now collecting information about the people who visited the city, Bengaluru and other coastal destinations since the last some months.
High alert announced all over the state had continued on Monday. The police continued to be on alert at public places, malls, railway and bus stations, metro stations etc in all the districts, the police stated.
