Puttur, Sep 20: A case has been registered at the Puttur Town police station against Ajith Rai Hosamane, organisers of the ‘Panchamukhi Friends’ tableau and others for allegedly using a loudspeaker beyond the permitted time and obstructing police personnel during the Ganeshotsava immersion procession held on September 17.

According to a complaint lodged by a police sub-inspector, permission to use loudspeakers during the procession had been granted with the condition that they be switched off by 10 pm. The procession featured several tableaux, and the loudspeakers were switched off after the stipulated time.

However, at around 10.35 pm, police noticed that the ‘Panchamukhi Friends’ tableau at the Puttur KSRTC bus stand junction was still using a loudspeaker. Police instructed those responsible to switch it off, following which it was reportedly turned off, the complaint stated.

It was then that Ajith Rai Hosamane and others, who were allegedly not associated with the programme, arrived at the spot and told the organisers not to switch off the loudspeaker. They allegedly instructed the tableau organisers to resume its use.

The loudspeaker was subsequently switched on again. Police personnel on duty directed those present to stop using it. Despite the instructions, the loudspeaker was allegedly continued to be used.

The police also reportedly explained to those present the Supreme Court’s directions concerning loudspeaker use and the conditions imposed by the police station on the programme organisers. Despite this, the loudspeaker continued to be used, allegedly obstructing police personnel in the discharge of their duties, the complaint stated.

The police have sought appropriate legal action against Ajith Rai Hosamane, the organisers of the ‘Panchamukhi Friends’ tableau and others.

The police officer deployed for law-and-order duty later appeared at the station and lodged the complaint. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Puttur Town police station.
