Mangaluru, Sep 20: West Bengal youth leader and activist Dipsita Dhar accused the BJP-led union government of failing to achieve the goal of building a developed India despite being in power under prime minister Narendra Modi since 2014.
She was speaking after inaugurating the Dakshina Kannada district conference of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), held at Bishop Jathanna Auditorium in Mangaluru, focusing on the rights to education, employment and healthcare, and the need for a secure future for the youth.
Dhar alleged that farmers and workers in India were facing difficulties under the BJP government and claimed that the centre was taking steps that affected their rights. She also alleged that the government had failed to take adequate action against attacks on women.
She further spoke about poverty among the lower and middle classes and alleged that students protesting for quality education and against corruption in the education sector were being portrayed as anti-national. She also accused the BJP and RSS of attempting to create divisions in society by spreading hatred through cultural and artistic platforms.
Calling upon the youth to unite, Dhar urged young people across the country to organise struggles against issues affecting them.
Addressing the conference, DYFI state secretary Basavaraj Poojar alleged that the union government had failed to fulfil its promises on employment. He said that although the government had initially promised to create crores of jobs every year, lacs of posts remained vacant in various central government departments, including the home and railways departments.
He urged the centre to fill the existing vacancies and create new employment opportunities. Poojar also alleged that Karnataka chief minister D K Shivakumar was following the path of prime minister Modi and working in the interests of corporate companies.
DYFI Dakshina Kannada district president B K Intiyaz, district secretary Santhosh Bajal, district leaders Tayyub Bengre, Madhuri Bolara and Manoj Vamanjoor, along with SFI district president Azlan Bengre and district secretary Vinayak, were present.
Ahead of the conference, hundreds of youth took part in a procession from Jyothi Circle in Mangaluru. The conference is expected to adopt resolutions seeking solutions to various issues affecting students and youth in Dakshina Kannada.
