Kasargod, Sep 20: Six persons were injured, one of them critically, after two cars lost control and collided head-on with a lorry early Sunday morning at Kanyappadi near Badiadka.

A total of nine youths, all residents of Musodi in Uppala, were travelling in the two cars involved in the crash. The injured have been shifted to a private hospital in Kasargod for treatment.

Over-speeding is suspected to be the primary cause of the accident. The impact of the collision was so severe that both cars were completely crushed. Furthermore, the lorry's diesel and oil tanks ruptured, spilling fuel across the road and severely disrupting vehicular movement in the area.

Upon receiving information, a fire and rescue team led by senior officer Suku Varghese rushed to the spot. Fire officers K Vijithin Krishnan, Atul Ravi, C K Abhinand, N P Rakesh, and O K Prajith swiftly launched a rescue operation, extricating the trapped youths from the mangled vehicles. The personnel then cleared the spilled oil and diesel from the stretch to restore smooth traffic flow.

The Badiadka police have registered a case in connection with the incident and initiated further investigations.
