Aichi-Nagoya, Sep 20: Indian shooter Elavenil Valarivan clinched her second silver medal of the day in the women’s 10m air rifle event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Sunday, September 20.

The 2019 World Cup gold medallist scored 252.4 points in the individual final to finish second behind Japan’s Hinata Taichi, who won gold with an Asian Games record score of 253 points. South Korea’s Hyojin Ban secured bronze with 230.4 points.

Elavenil entered the final two shots just 0.3 points behind Taichi. She scored 10.4 in the penultimate shot, while the Japanese shooter managed 10.6, extending the lead to 0.5 points.

Needing a strong final shot to overtake her rival, Elavenil scored 10.1. Taichi responded with 10.2 to seal the gold medal and establish a new Asian Games record.

Earlier in the day, Elavenil had helped India win silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team event alongside Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa Vinod.

India’s two shooting medals at the Games so far are both silver, marking an early contribution to the country’s campaign following its record 22-medal haul at the Hangzhou Asian Games, comprising seven gold, nine silver and six bronze medals.
