Andhra Pradesh to launch second Amaravati Championship on Jul 15

Vijayawada, Jul 14: The second edition of the Amaravati Championship will begin across Andhra Pradesh on Jul 15, with the tournament aimed at identifying and nurturing sporting talent from across the state.

Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Chairman A. Ravi Naidu unveiled the official poster of the championship in Vijayawada on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Ravi Naidu said selections would be conducted in all 175 Assembly constituencies in the Under-17 and Under-23 categories, providing young athletes with an opportunity to showcase their talent.

He said district-level competitions would be held from Aug 1 to Aug 15, followed by the state-level events from Aug 20 to Aug 25. Winners will be honoured on National Sports Day, Aug 29.

The championship will feature competitions in 12 sporting disciplines with a total prize pool of Rs 94 lakh.

Ravi Naidu said the organisers are aiming to attract participation from more than three lakh students from both rural and urban areas.

He added that the championship reflects the Andhra Pradesh government's commitment to promoting sports and developing the state into a leading sporting destination.
