Bantwal: Two held for trafficking drugs worth Rs 42 lac

Bantwal, May 4: Bantwal Rural police have apprehended two accused who were transporting MDMA, and seized narcotic substances worth Rs 42 lac along with a mobile phone and a Bolero vehicle in an incident reported at Panjala in Manchi village.

The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Nizamuddin (30) and his brother Mohammed Shaheem (19), residents of Bolanthuru in Bantwal.

Police had received information that two unidentified persons were heading towards Bantwal in a Bolero vehicle carrying the banned narcotic substance MDMA. Acting on credible information, the police conducted vehicle checks at Panjala Cross in Manchi village. During this time, a Bolero vehicle approached from the Salettur side. When signalled to stop, the vehicle sped ahead, but was intercepted by the police. Upon inspection, narcotic substances were found in the car. Investigation revealed that the accused had purchased MDMA from an unidentified Nigerian individual in Bengaluru and were transporting it for sale.

From the accused, police seized 423 grams of MDMA valued at Rs 42,30,000, the Bolero vehicle used for the offence, and three mobile phones in their possession. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 46.25 lac. A case has been registered at Bantwal Rural police station and further investigation is underway.
