Panaji, Apr 11: The Goa Police has arrested a man in connection with a Rs 60 lac “digital arrest” fraud, uncovering links to a wider cybercrime network operating across multiple states.

The accused, Akshay Suresh Nikam, was taken into custody by the Cyber Crime Police Station after a detailed investigation into the case registered on February 20, 2026.

According to officials, Nikam allegedly posed as officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation and a magistrate during WhatsApp calls to intimidate the victim. Using threats and deception, he convinced the victim that he was under investigation and coerced him into transferring Rs 60 lakh.

Police said technical analysis of digital trails helped trace the accused to Satara in Maharashtra, where a team conducted the arrest operation.

Further investigation has revealed that the accused is linked to several similar cyber fraud cases across different states, with the total amount involved estimated at around Rs 3.10 crore.

Authorities are continuing their probe to identify other members of the network and uncover the full extent of the operation.
