Canacona, Sep 4: A 33-year-old man tragically lost his life after being electrocuted in a paddy field near his residence at Satorlim in Gaondongrim on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Yeshwant Gaonkar (33), a resident of the area.
According to police sources, Yeshwant had gone to a well located around 500 metres from his house to check an electric motor pump. When he failed to return after a long time, his family members, including his brother Umesh Gaonkar, launched a search for him and discovered him lying prone near the well. A local resident, Vasu Gaonkar, alerted the police regarding the incident.

Upon receiving the information, police personnel arrived at the scene, examined the area, and conducted an inquest panchnama. Preliminary investigations suggest that Yeshwant suffered a fatal electric shock from one of the electricity poles erected in the field.
He was immediately rushed in a 108 ambulance to the Community Health Centre in Canacona, where the doctor on duty declared him brought dead. A postmortem examination conducted at the South Goa District Hospital confirmed that electrocution was the cause of death. The body was subsequently handed over to the grieving family for final rites.
