Goa HSSC pass percentage rises to 92.96, girls outperform boys

Panaji, Mar 22: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education recorded an overall pass percentage of 92.96 per cent in the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examinations this year, marking a notable improvement from last year’s 90.64 per cent.

Announcing the results, Board Chairman Bhagirath Shetye said that 16,067 students cleared the exams out of 17,283 who appeared.

Girls continued to outperform boys, with 8,529 of the 9,080 girls passing (93.93%), compared to 7,538 of the 8,203 boys (91.89%).

Among streams, Science recorded the highest performance, with 5,097 of 5,428 students passing, translating to a 93.9 per cent success rate. The Arts stream saw 3,790 of 4,110 students clear the exams (92.21%), while Commerce recorded a 92.9 per cent pass rate with 4,936 of 5,313 students passing. In the vocational stream, 2,244 out of 2,432 students were declared successful, achieving a pass percentage of 92.27.

Shetye said the majority of students—8,280—secured marks in the 60–80 per cent range, while 2,034 students scored between 81 and 100 per cent.

Taluka-wise, Pernem recorded the highest pass percentage at 95.97, while Dharbandora registered the lowest at 79.57.

A total of 2,626 students availed sports merit marks, with 87 passing with their help. Meanwhile, 1,193 students were placed in the “needs improvement” category.

The board has tentatively scheduled the supplementary examination for April 27. Students seeking to improve their marks can also appear for these exams. The next annual HSSC examination is expected to begin on February 11, 2027.

The portal for verification of marks will open on March 27, and applications must be submitted through schools. The fee for a verified photocopy of an answer book is Rs 350 per subject, while revaluation costs Rs 700 per subject. Verification of marks in absentia is priced at Rs 100 per subject.
