TCS asks staff to embrace AI even if it hits revenue, says CEO

Mumbai, Feb 25: Tata Consultancy Services has urged its employees to aggressively adopt artificial intelligence tools to deliver projects faster and more cost-effectively — even if it impacts the company’s short-term revenue, its CEO said on Wednesday.

Speaking at the Nasscom Technology and Leadership Forum in Mumbai, CEO K Krithivasan said associates should proactively suggest AI-driven efficiencies to clients.

“We are telling associates that if you find that you can do something faster, better, cheaper with AI, you should probably go and tell your customers, even if it cannibalises revenue,” he said.

Krithivasan added that the company does not view AI as a threat to jobs but as an opportunity to unlock new growth. “We are not afraid this technology will take away our livelihood. We believe it is going to open up more. You enjoy the benefits the more you do, and not by resisting the change,” he said.

TCS’ approach aligns with rival Wipro, which has also expressed optimism about AI-led transformation. Wipro’s Chief Strategist and Technology Officer Hari Shetty has said rapid AI adoption is expected to create more jobs than it displaces.

Investor concerns over AI disrupting India’s traditional labour-intensive IT services model have weighed heavily on the sector. Nearly $68.6 billion in market value was wiped out in February amid worries about structural changes.

The Nifty IT index has fallen 21 per cent this month as of Tuesday’s close, marking its worst monthly performance in nearly 23 years.
