India shines at Taiwan athletics open with six gold medals

Taipei, Jun 8: Indian athletes delivered a stellar performance at the 2025 Taiwan Athletics Open, clinching six gold medals and making their mark at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meet held in Taipei on Saturday.

Jyothi Yarraji stole the spotlight in the women’s 100m hurdles, clocking 12.99 seconds to strike gold. The 24-year-old, who had recently broken the national record with 12.96 seconds in South Korea, once again finished under 13 seconds, asserting her dominance. Japan’s Asuka Terada claimed silver with 13.04 seconds.

Tejas Ashok Shirse claimed the top spot in the men’s 110m hurdles with a timing of 13.52 seconds, while Abdulla Aboobacker triumphed in the men’s triple jump with a best leap of 16.21m.

India's medal tally grew further as Pooja set a new competition record of 4:11.63 in the women’s 1500m race, breaking the previous mark of 4:15.81. The Indian women’s 4x100m relay team — Sudheeksha Vadluri, Sneha Sathyanarayana Shanuvalli, Abinaya Rajarajan, and Nithya Gandhe — also set a new competition record with 44.07 seconds.

Capping off the golden day, the men’s 4x100m relay team comprising Gurindervir Singh, Animesh Kujur, Manikanta Hoblidhar, and Amlan Borgohain clinched gold with a blazing finish of 38.75 seconds.

India’s commanding performance in Taipei showcased the growing strength of its athletics contingent on the international stage.
