New Delhi, May 10: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun consultations with key stakeholders and the Government of India to decide the timeline for the resumption of IPL 2025, which was suspended amid the India-Pakistan conflict.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board will utilise the next 48 hours to hold talks with franchises, broadcasters, sponsors, and state associations before charting the league’s roadmap. “The BCCI is closely monitoring the evolving situation and will take a call on IPL resumption after consulting all stakeholders and the concerned Government authorities,” he stated.
The IPL was paused on May 9 following the cancellation of the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala. The league has 16 matches, including four playoffs, remaining. While a temporary ceasefire has brought hope for stability, the BCCI has reiterated its intention to secure the central government’s approval before moving ahead.
“There are still five days left in the seven-day suspension window. We are not looking beyond May to complete the season and are considering a 12–14 day window, possibly with added double-headers,” a BCCI source told Cricbuzz.
As of now, franchises have not officially reached out to overseas players, though many are reportedly willing to return if the league resumes within a week. Some foreign players still remain in India and may be asked to stay back.
Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan said, “Although we are not in contention for a play-off berth, we want the league to be completed. The IPL is a prestigious tournament. We’ve advised overseas players they may need to return in a week.”
The BCCI is expected to announce the final decision on the IPL restart in the coming days.
