CM greets DB Chandre Gowda on his 87th birthday

Bengaluru, Aug 26: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday visited the residence of veteran political leader D B Chandre Gowda on his 87th birthday.

Gowda hits national headlines when he resigned his Chikmagalur lok sabha seat in favour of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to get reelected to parliament in a by-election after her defeat from her traditional Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh to Janata Party’s maverick politician Raj Narain.

He was born at Daradahalli village of Mudigere taluk in Chikmagalur district on August 26, 1936.

A three time-Lok Sabha member, Gowda had served one term as a Rajya Sabha member too. He had served as a minister in the State and became the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly and got elected as MLA 3 times besides being an MLC once.

Gowda resigned from the Congress and joined BJP in 2008.

The Chief Minister visited the veteran residence of Chandre Gowda in the morning.

Thigala Kshatriya function in Tumkur

Later, the Chief Minister attended the Thigala Kshatriya Jagruti conference and Guruvandana programme in Tumkur.

The Siddhaganga Mutt seer Sri Siddhlinga Swamiji, Vahnikula Kshatriya Pranavanad Mahaswamy, BJP Yuva Morcha State President N L Narendra Babu, Thigala Samaja Working President L Kamalamma and others participated in the programme.
