New Delhi, Feb 23 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Wednesday questioned the railway ministry on a petition alleging non-implementation of its 2010 catering policy, resulting in huge losses to the government and denial of good quality food to commuters.

The division bench of Chief Justice Deepak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna issued notices to the ministry and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

"The chairman of railway board (would) file the response by April 27," said the court.

"The present petition has been filed for the benefit of the railways, to enable the ministry to realise as to how their officials at stations all over India in general and in Bhatinda station are causing a huge deficit to it," said the petition.

The bench was hearing a petition filed by Balinder Chawla seeking a direction to the central government for implementation of the 2010 catering policy.

The petition sought the removal of all defaulting contractors unauthorisedly occupying vending stalls at stations.
