St Louis, Aug 26: Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa stormed into the final of the 2026 Grand Chess Tour Finals after defeating Germany's Vincent Keymer 19-9 in the semifinal in St Louis.

Praggnanandhaa had taken a crucial lead after winning the second classical game against Keymer. He then strengthened his position by winning both rapid games on the following day, securing an unassailable advantage before the blitz games.

The Indian grandmaster eventually sealed the semifinal with a 19-9 score. He had already secured his place in the final with four games still remaining, although Keymer won the final three blitz games.

Praggnanandhaa will face pre-event favourite and defending champion Fabiano Caruana of the United States in the title clash. Caruana booked his place in the final after defeating Wesley So 18-12 in the other semifinal.

The final is being played from a clean slate, with the first game contested under classical time controls. Praggnanandhaa has earned the black pieces in the opening game.

The final marks an opportunity for Praggnanandhaa to claim his first Grand Chess Tour title, while Caruana is seeking to become the first player to win the Grand Chess Tour Finals in consecutive years.

The third-place match will be contested between Keymer and So. The winner of that match will secure a place in the 2027 Grand Chess Tour.
