Strict screening, testing of fliers at Mangaluru International Airport

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 9: In the light of the increasing incidences of the Omicron variants of the Covid19 virus, Mangaluru International Airport has set up a dedicated space at the airport terminal for testing international passengers.

Chief airport officer Nirav Shah on Wednesday December 8 informed mediapersons that the arrangements at the airport are according to the latest guidelines from the government. He said that till Wednesday, 10 passengers had arrived from countries at risk and all of them had tested negative for Covid-19. Shah also added that 64 passengers have tested for 2% of random testing from non-risk countries.

Unlike earlier where Covid test was done after a passenger had completed his immigration and customs checking, following the new guidelines, all passengers will be screened by the airport health officer at the arrival gate itself. Passengers from high risk countries will be tested with Rapid RT-PCR and 2% of random passengers with RT-PCR. Passengers from the high risk countries will be allowed to leave only after obtaining test results, which takes about 40 minutes.

Shah said that sanitization and cleanliness requirements in addition to refreshments, currency exchange and as well isolation rooms have been taken care of at the place where the passengers will get seated. These facilities will help the passengers arriving from abroad to be safe and take care of their health.

Personally in olden times I had no problems ,After the new management and this Corona I have not gone through .So cant say much But I find they must let everyone go through corona test ,because many people bring a wrong bought corona test and a fake vaccine book which can be bought for some money by people.Since Passengers sit together for some hours quite possible some get positive tests later, infected from others. So I prefer a test.Only horrible charges are not good.Because in foreign we dont get money from money tree .What does they cost in mangalore? In Bangalore they cost 3000rs pro person .Dont give certificate to all if a family travels with.but one get ,reciept for money also dont get from all only one .Good?Rest money must be filling the wrong pockets?Well corruption In India will not stop for next 200 years also.

Our airport security is the best. I am not talking about the customs here. I remember one incident where I was carrying Swiss knife in my cabin bag from Dubai - Singapore - Dubai. I didn't and I was never caught. I didn't realise I was carrying with me. The same cabin bag I took it to Dubai - Mangalore and still didn't get caught. However, I was stopped at Mangalore Airport while boarding Dubai flight. I told them, I went to Dubai Singapore etc and was never stopped, how come in Managlore? With a smile they said, we are the best security agencies. No doubt about it.

Security system is for the safety of passengers and country. Do you get undue attention and smiling treatment from your local police for instance ? We we respect them we get respect too. If try to boss your attitude you get what you deserve. I am travelling since 1975 and never ever faced any rude nature from either customs, immigration authorities. They are trained to read passengers guilt/suspicious natures from their face.

Chief airport officer Nirav Shah. What??? They got a Gujju to run the airport. Has India enslaved now by all the Gujjus? Does not Mangalore has intelligent people who can run an airport? The Kudla people have produced intelligent manpower who serve across the world but here in Kudla our main airport is run by a Gujju. Shame on Centre to sell our airport for peanuts to Adani.

This is nothing but intimidation, torture and extortion of poor passengers in the name of Omicron. One more opportunity for the vested interests to mint money.

@ Nelson, "Worst behaved security personnel at mangalore airport with no professionalism" They do their duty and they do it as per Aviation security norms and requirement. It is not an entry for liver concert and you get welcome smile. If any leniency is applied the terrorist may take full advantage and sabotage then people will criticize Air port security system. Keep every one at their designated duty and responsibility and learn to respect.

If the airport was under govt, we wud have a airport officer from kudla. Thanks to the bumper sale to adani, we now have an airport officer whose sir name is Shah. Most likely a gujrati. This is how our local people wil lose jobs

Good arrangements. But the Airport staff need to train for customer service Security forces need to be trained on how to respect passengers. Next, more counters & staff are required in handbag screening Because our Mnaglore airport staff doesn't knowhow to behave & respect customers. Even we being passengers also should be clam while speaking to them & all respect them.

Nelson Saab.... may be it's your personal experience.... otherwise we never encounter any problem with anybody for that matter...... In fact I am delighted as soon as I enter Mangalore Airport...... Just talk to them nicely with polite words.....they tend their services with extra care which I never experienced in Mumbai or Ahmadabad or Delhi or Cochin Airport I used
