Australia Team would Not be Allowed to Play in Maharashtra: Thackeray

Pune, Jan 14 (PTI): In the wake of attacks on Indians in Australia, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Wednesday said his party would not allow Australian team to play cricket in Maharashtra.

Expressing anguish over the violence against Indians in Australia, Thackeray said, "Our boys are being stabbed, burnt and shot at in that country and still our cricketers have no qualms in playing with them. Do they have any national pride?".

In the Sena announcement banning Australian cricketers in Maharashtra, front-paged in the party mouthpiece 'Saamana', he recalled that his activists had taken a similar step against Pakistani cricketers who still cannot play in the state.

The Sena supremo also had a word of praise for actor Amitabh Bachchan who, he said, displayed a patriotic spirit when he politely refused an award in his honour from Queensland University in protest against the incidents in Australia.

"I would have been happy if our cricketers too had shown similar self-respect in the matter. But cricket has become a game of money and self-respect and patriotism have taken a back-seat," Thackeray commented.

Its a fact Indian students are attacked in Australia as we all know & Aussie police so far have not succeeded in stopping these attacks as they are happening every now & then & now are gone to alaraming stage with some burning incidents . If Same thing happened to european/us students reaction from those Govts would have been much stronger . This is not a debate to check who is more racist & less racist nor a race to inform Where India stands on a racism Countrys List!. If India is more racist then we must take measures to avoid that & stop it but one can not bluntly say which country stands where! . As far as person who wants to stop aussies

This man is very unreliable. Today he speak something & tomorrow another thing & finally he withdraws everything putting the people who follow him in shame. We can not go behind him for sure. I totally disagree with Thakre we must boycott Aussie team as these attacks are accidental & not deliberate & handywork of antisocial elements & common australian Citizens surely not encouraging these activities . I warmly welcome aussie team but Aussie Govt must try to soon Stop these attacks on our boys I was the target Of racism in europe Directly/indirectly . In one of developed European country Body Guard of restaurant himself was allowed discreminate when people were entering. In another country i found A indian rest was disturbed to see we indians entering restaurant As they perhaps wanted western Guests!

I strongly support Mr. Bal Thackeray on this stand. Oz should not be allowed to play in India and Indian Regulatory bodies should all the bilateral agreement till the Australian Govt. do not intervene and take concrete step to stop this kind violence/ killings. Severe punishment should be extended to the criminals. It’s extreme and not at all acceptable. For that matter we are lucky to be in Gulf Country.

I am living in Australia for the last 22 years but have not experienced any Racist behaviour towards Indians by Australian people during this time. I totally agree with Sunil F.`s comments above, specially when he says that there is no country as Racist as India, with so many segments and sections of society like North and South Indians, Maharastrians, and also where there are so many cast systems exist. I also fully endorse Sunil`s views that Indian Students, specially from North, come here to do all sorts of unwanted courses mainly with the purpose of obtaining Permanent Residency (PR)and they will go to any extent, including heavy bribing, to achieve their goals.

I also would like to add that Indian students, in order to locally sustain themselves and to meet their heavy financial commitments back at home, take up local menial jobs like car washing, cleaning the office premises, kitchen hands and taxi driving etc. (mind you not all, but most of them), where they have to commute late in the night by public transport to far out places, and in the process are vulnerable to attacks by juveniles and unemployed youth, main intention being theft and some resentment too because the Indian students take away their jobs, and surely, none- whatsoever, racist attacks.

These sort of attacks are very common here which are being experienced regularly by people of other nationalities as well. I also wish to say that TV and other media in India go over the top in their coverage.

I am living in Australia from last four years and the verdict is that there is no country as racist as India on the face of this planet. The shameful thing is the biggest racists are trying to remove the speck from others eyes keeping a log in their own eyes. Just because of few Aussie youth(similar to Shiv Sainik of India)attacked some Indian students, you cant blame the whole nation or the Government as Racists. We know what our fellow Indians are doing here especially those from the north who come here to do unwanted courses, which has no scope and no residency assured and to settle in Australia they do anything illegal and try to adulterate the system with their Indian Viruses.

Shiv Sainiks are the uneducated blind lead by a Willy, called Bal thackeray. He and his followers are hitting fellow north Indians who come to Mumbai and here they protest against the attacks on couple of Indians in Australia. First fix the caste problems and than talk about this.. No Australian will refuse to take an Indian in their house or offer water in a unwanted glass by making them sitting on the floor or some where in the corner, which more than 60% of Indians do to the scheduled caste and tribes becas they are gutter cleaners and shit movers. Indians become Australian citizens by renouncing the Indian citizenship and by taking an oath to stand for Australian Values. So if Indians want to be respected, than respect the Justice, Freedom and Equality the country has provided.

I am Really proud of Shivasena Supremo Mr. Bal Thackeray.Action and reaction should be equal and opposite. Here a wonderful humanbeing has raised voice with great guts in support of our students who are targetted mercilessly in Australia. Here I do remember great Amitabji's wholehearted support towards our dear students who were attacked by Rogues in Australia.Long live Shivasena Supremo Mr. Bal Thackray. My earnest prayers are with you always and Almighty God Bless you.

Bal Thackery gained votes by mixing religion with politics and now since that is not working, he has started mixing sport with politics. If peoples across the world think like him then the Indian team would not be allowed to be play outside India because of attack on Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and even lower caste Hindus.

Bal Thackeray wants to be in the news. If he is going to instruct his party hooligans not to allow Australians to play in Maharashtra, then the match that is to be played in Bombay, should be re-allocated to some other venue. The one and the only step the Indian Government has to take is STOP our students seeking admission into the Australian Universities. The Indians are a major source of income for their universities, so boycotting their universities will make them feel the pinch.

The Australians are borne racists. Although over the years racism has been declining, thanks to their government's efforts, one can't completely eradicate it. We see how racists they are when we watch cricket matches, whether they are viewers or players. Having said this, I would not hesitate to say, what is going on in Australia, has been going on in India for thousands of years now. We still have "untouchables", caste system, upper and lower class......, you name it and we have it.

Minorities are not very safe in our country, who are frequently attacked, their women folks are raped, their worshipping places are vandalized. Where was Bal Thackeray when the Australian missionary, Graham Stains and his two kids were burned to death in their vehicle? Does he know how many non-Maharashtrians are assaulted by his goons? What I am trying to say is that India is NOT better than Australia. If some Australians attack Indians, Indians attack Indians.

Mr Thackeray you have no right to stop agame from being played on grounds that Indians are attacked in Australia. You have attacked Indians here in Mumbai over so many years. First you started with South Indians way back in the 1960s, where you destroyed their hotels and other properties.Next you targetted North Indians. Now you are portraying to be the saviour of all Indians by staying in your ultra safe haven surronded by over 200 security police. You are always getting at soft targets and your goons can smash & destroy stadiums, cricket pitches and public property. This is all that your party has done ever since you founded it. Your nephew is a mirror image of you and he now following in your footsteps of spreading disharmony among the people. Please leave sports aside as it is one thing that brings people from different nations together. Dont bring your dirty politics into sports.

You have shown in-justice to our own people. So I would say let the cricket continue its not your city to stop Australian's to play cricket in Mumbai.
