Ramgarh, Jul 5: One person was killed and several others are feared trapped after a portion of a coal mine collapsed during alleged illegal mining activity in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district early Saturday, police said.

The incident took place in the Karma area of the district. According to Kuju Police Outpost in-charge Ashutosh Kumar Singh, the body of one individual has been recovered, and rescue operations are ongoing amid fears that more people may be buried under the debris.

“Some villagers were engaged in illegal coal mining when the collapse occurred,” Singh said.

Ramgarh Deputy Commissioner Faiz Aq Ahmed Mumtaz confirmed that an administrative team has been dispatched to the site to carry out relief, rescue, and investigation. Authorities are working to determine the exact number of people involved and assess the extent of the damage.
