Beltangady, July 5: In a crackdown on illegal meat trade, Beltangady police raided an unlicensed shop in Kajooru village, Mittabagilu area, and seized 47 kilos of Sunday meat stored unlawfully for sale.

The operation, led by sub-inspector Yallappa H Mader, took place on the evening of July 2, following a tip-off about illicit meat sale activities.

The accused, Abdul Razak (28) and his brother Abdul Rawoop (20), both residents of Malavanti village, were found storing the meat inside a refrigerator without any licence. Investigations revealed the brothers had illegally slaughtered the meat at their home and attempted to distribute it commercially.

The police have registered a case against them under FIR No. 51/2025 at Beltangady police station, citing violations of the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Animal Preservation Act, 2020.

The probe is ongoing, and authorities warn shop owners to adhere strictly to licensing laws.

During my childhood used to get Beef from a stall in Kankanady Market. Sometimes fresh meat (warm) because adjacent to the stall in a small room they used slaughter cattle. Cost of Beef during 60's 70's used to be Rs. 2 per KG. Happy go luck days !
