Mangaluru, Jul 5: In a remarkable show of communal harmony and compassion, social worker Fayaz Masood from Bantwal and his team successfully raised Rs 75 lac within just 15 hours to support the bone marrow transplant treatment of a five-year-old girl, the daughter of a temple priest.

Doctors at Narayana Health, Bengaluru, had advised an urgent bone marrow transplant for the child, estimating the treatment cost between Rs 40 to Rs 50 lac. The family had already spent around Rs 7 lakh and found it nearly impossible to arrange the remaining amount.

“A friend who understood our situation gave us Fayaz’s number. A group of 10 of us from the village met him. He then visited our home, met our daughter, and recorded a video. He said he would share it on social media the next day at 6 pm. But we never imagined such a huge response,” the girl’s father, Hiranyaksha, said.

Fayaaz shared, “Understanding the urgency, I posted a video appeal on social media on June 30 at 6 pm. By the next day at 10:30 am, Rs 75 lac had been raised.”

“He did not ask about our religion, nor did he expect anything from us. He only asked by when we needed the money,” Hiranyaksha added with gratitude.

The child’s family has since travelled to Bengaluru, and her treatment is expected to begin within a couple of days.
