Mangalore, Nov 21:
‘Souharda Samavesha’, a meet of religious leaders was held at the Town Hall on Friday November 20, to stress the need for communal and religious harmony.

Speaking on the occasion, Vidyaprasanna Theertha Swami of Subrahmanya Math, said that human life is elevated when each one in the society lives in harmony.

“If there is any mistake by any person, there is no need to blame it on religion. So, every religion is great which does not tolerate violence”, he said.

Al-hajj Thoka Ahmed Musliyar, assistant Khaji, said that only a few people don’t know the values of our society which are blended with harmony.

Recalling the history of this area, he added, “Hindus and Hindu kings treated the Muslims as their brothers. Minor incidents may hurt the sentiments of religions due to some anti-social elements”.

Fr Ronnie Prabhu, director, Fatima Retreat House, said, “Humanity is more important than religion. Religion teaches to live in harmony and brotherhood. So, people need to think that there is no religion higher than humanity and this is the value of all holy books of all religions”.

Yerya Laxminarayana Alva, president, Dharmika Souharda Samiti, presided over the function and vice-president Dr C P Habiburahaman welcomed all. Member Mohammad Kunhi presented the keynote address.

Fr Honeybal Cabral, principal, Karnataka Theological College, Dr Sayyed Akil Ahmed, vice-chancellor, Yenepoya University, and Naveen Chandra Suvarna, president of Akhila Bhartha Billava Union, were also present.

The programme was inaugurated by the religious leaders who watered a flower pot containing roses of various colours.

It is great that the religious leaders of various religons are getting together, and speaking terms of peace. It must be continued. May I request to the Hindu community leaders to show their protest, in one voice, againt the anti-minority hooligans who are attcking the worship places in routine. That serious issue has to be addressed.

Nice to see the gathering.Swamiji is 100% correct.I request all religious heads of the dist.to form an association.Whenever there arise communal riots or disturbances, they must come out of their mutts, mandirs, masjids, churches,Dharmashalas, basadis, temples etc.and come to the streets hand in hand to show to the people that they are united and why their followers fight one another.

Can they do it? they must help the authorities to nab the culprits.I dont think they will do this.We see many a times they appear only after every thing gets over.they dont even give at least one public announcement in the media. They can stop the fighting if they are really honest in what they preach and practice the same. But I dont think no religious head will do it.So,be HONEST IN WHAT YOU SAY.

Who can educate the leaders political and religious who sit within 4 AC walls and ignite fire and spread venom. The public should boycott these type of leaders. After all these leaders both religious and political are go hand in hand. Political leaders sees that he has show off his political power and religious leaders sees that his congregation will come to for blessing otherwise end up in curse. After all the followers will go to them with fear. People should ignore these type of leaders and they should come to your door like candidate before elections knocking your door for votes.

Such meets should be for the illiterates. We have seen enough of this cycle in the cities and towns in the past with violence as usual . All what is required is a law and order machinery which should be firm and just, then only all fanatics will be in their elements. There will be peace all around.

Such harmony meetings should take place several times in year. Let humanity be the winner and Jungle raj be the loser for ever. It would be nicer if we can see the powerful people supporting vandalism and leaders of miscreants in such gatherings, so that they can feel the warmth and pleasure of harmony.

Some important leaders who are capable of maintaining communal harmony were missing from this important Meet. Their participation would have made a difference. However, a good effort by the organizers. Let us all live in peace and harmony. Jai Ho.

It is good to see the people at least gather unitedly, what ever the out come is secondary. But what I suggest is, this type of gathering should be arranged in villages too. It will help to reach the heart of the people & fulfill the purpose. Even the traditional food festivals with traditional entertainment from different religions can be organised, so that the people will take it sportively & competitively. The fun & happiness will forget all the religion differences. But immature stupid the silly mentality people like Vincy, Shamboor, Bangkok will never improve in life. We should educate this type of people. These are the actual culprits to be funished & thrown out of the peaceful society. Just read all the comments on this page, except selfish Vincy’s, all happy to read about the gathering. Jai Bharathdesh

Now we have reached a stage where the entire religious group should unite and condemn all those who, in the name of religion, attack and terrorise the innocent people. Politically affiliated religious group should not be given a place in such meet and all those assembled should openly condemn such radical religious front. The highly placed priests gathered in such meet should request the Sangh Parivar and the Muslim League to not to act as the protector of their respected religion and take law into their hand to meet their political mileage.

Conflicts arise only because of religion. When God can fend himself without human help, why we should fight in his name and cause violence, hatred and bloodshedding. Live and let others live in peace.

HUMANITY is more than a religion, it should be understood by ALL followers of the faith, there was similar program before participated by all the leaders of Christian, Muslim and Hindu faiths but few days after one of the leader participated in that program supported the attack on Muslim youth. We need initiatives to be followed by the leaders so they can set example for their followers. The Hindu reformers in South Canara district should know that by attacking the followers of minority comminutes or by desecrating the place of worship will have bad image on their religion. All religions advocate peace and communal harmony but we the followers of the religions violate it. Religion is personal and we all should understand that in India the religion is taken for granted and for political mileage. Let us all enjoy the religious freedom provided by our constitution, respect other religions to have communal harmony. We are living in paranoid society because of these anti- social elements and religious reformers in form of goons.

I would like to see Sri Pejawar shree on this platform. Then only we can call such meetings are worth. Those who are powerful and have social recongition must come forward in bridging the gap. A powerful personality like Shree Heggade of Dharmasthala can wield enormous influence on the people. If all religious leaders preach peace and condemn violence, I am sure attacks on masjids, churches, students, pubs wont take place. But there are some section of powerful religious leaders who are advocating hate and violence are supporting fundamental outfits and even financing them. Some powerful religious leaders have played negatively and contributed to the promotion of hate and violence. They themselves failed to understand what their religion speaks and started politicising their own religions. Its very very unfortunate. No religion preaches hate and devision but the so called religious leaders just misinform and misguide ignorant followers with unfounded ideologies which are against their own ethics and religion. I request all religious pontiff, mullas, priests to come together with true message of their religion without politicising it and promote peace, love and harmony in the society. I would like to seek Pejawarshrees opinion on the above meet and want to know does he support such meets.

We have been seen several convene like this but this is not effective because it will not reach to common people, even religious leaders only speech for formalities of occupation they are not active to prevent such kind of incident , they have not true concern about unwanted incident which is happening in entire District, If they bother about that they can control the followers of them and they can come to front of media and preach for not to do and also this is not religious as miscreants clime they are doing for save dharma, even religious leaders concern about their popularity and publicity where they lose if they come to control . I would like to say one thing If we want we can control all these things which we proved in Bairikatte it was the very high tense area for both community and police dept before 10 years back but after that both community youngsters came to know political game behind of incidents and assembled youngsters and organized committee as known as GELEYARA BALAGA which is success fully controlling all unwanted incidents, doing social activity and servicing the people. Its presently leading by Mr. Ravish k and almost more than 100 members we have. Our policy is simple ‘Follow our religion and respect others religion’.

Many such Souharda Samavesha's have made headlines in the past and they continue. Our religious leaders always need a platform to comeforward and smile together on the stage. They should also practice what they talk on these samaveshas. The attacks made by few hindu fundamentalists or so called hindu religion reformers are results of lack of education. These young boys are poisoned by the wrong teaching of RSS at the grassroot level. The Hindu religious priests should come out of the mutts and temples and invite the common people for a weekly gathering at every temple and preach them good things and forgivness. The muslim to to mosque every week and the christains go to church. If the Hindu priests start a weekly scheduled prayers at every temple then I feel the many young clad who lack basic education may get a better vision of life.
