Italian rider wins Tour of Hainan 8th stage


Beijing, Oct 27 (IANS): Italy's Nicolo Bonifazio from Lampre-Merida Team came first in the eighth stage of the 2014 Tour of Hainan cycle race Monday.

Frenchman Julien Antomarchi of Team La Pomme Marseille retained his yellow jersey, while Bonifazio kept the green jersey for the best sprinter, reports Xinhua.

Sergiy Grechyn of Ukraine National Team secured the polka-dot jersey as the best climber, and Andrey Zeits of Astana Pro Team retained his blue jersey for the best Asian rider in this event.

The 154.1-kilometre eighth stage started at Wuzhishan, a city in the heart of Hainan, and finished at the city of Danzhou.

This year's Tour of Hainan will last nine days with the last stage scheduled Tuesday, which will take place in Danzhou, and finish in Chengmai, covering 165.7 kilometres.
